Speaking and Presenting Basics
One day with Tamara Reid, for hair, beauty and aesthetics professionals who want to be on the stage at the next education day, expo or brand launch rather than in the audience wondering how she got up there.
Save my seat
When the microphone is finally yours, make the room forget their phones are in their bags
Think about the moment it finally happens, whether it's your first keynote at an education day or, well before that, a podcast interview, a brand webinar or a panel at an expo. Someone hands you the microphone, the room settles, and every person in it decides within about thirty seconds whether you're worth listening to or whether it's time to check Instagram.
We've all sat in the audience for the speaker who reads from their slides, apologises for being nervous and loses the room before morning tea. They're usually brilliant at what they do, but nobody ever taught them how to hold attention, so their expertise never lands and they don't get asked back, no matter how good they are behind the chair or in the treatment room.
I want the opposite for you. I want you to grab the room from your very first sentence, tell stories people are still repeating to each other at lunch, and speak so engagingly that reaching into a bag for a phone doesn't cross anyone's mind. That isn't a gift some people are born with, it's a craft with rules, from how you open and how you move to what you do when the mic cuts out, and I'll teach you all of it in a room where you'll actually get up and practise.

By five o'clock, you'll have a talk, a plan and your first few minutes on a real microphone behind you
- The outline of your first talk, built from what you already know, with an opening that settles the room and a close that people remember
- The storytelling techniques that make people remember you, using your own client and career stories, and how to make them work on a podcast, a webinar or a panel as well as on a stage
- Your first two minutes delivered on a microphone in front of the group, with feedback from me, so the first time isn't the real time
- Stage presence you can rely on, including where to stand, what to do with your hands and how to recover when you lose your place
- Your speaking voice, including finding a pitch that sounds like you at your most confident and a pace that gives your best lines room to land
- How to answer questions from the audience with an instant, clear answer that makes an impact, rather than waffling until you've lost the point
- Microphone know-how, so you'll know the difference between a lapel, a headset and a handheld and how to manage each one without fuss
- A stage wardrobe checklist, covering what reads well under lights, what fights with a lapel mic and what to avoid on camera
- Your speaker kit list (bio, headshot, talk description and one-page speaker sheet) and a pitch you can send this week to land your first speaking gig

Agenda for the day
Bring your laptop, your phone and the outfit you'd wear on stage if you'd like a second opinion. My frameworks, the food and the coffee are on me.
This is for you if you've been saying yes to the audience and no to the stage
It's for educators, salon and clinic owners, therapists, injectors, brand trainers and BDMs who present already but have never been taught how, and for anyone who has been asked to speak, said no because they didn't feel ready, and regretted it afterwards. You don't need any speaking experience at all, and if the idea of holding a microphone makes your stomach turn, you're exactly who I built this for.
It isn't a keynote masterclass for people who are already on the circuit and want to raise their fees. This is the beginning, and we treat it like one.
Why I’m the one teaching this
I've spent close to twenty years in this industry, ten of them on the brand side, which means I've been the one booking the speakers as well as the one on stage. I MC and keynote at industry events across Australia, and I've sat on the other side of enough speaker pitches to know which ones get a yes and which ones get ignored.
I'll teach you what I wish someone had taught me before my first talk, including the practical bits nobody mentions until something goes wrong on the day.

Come the day before, and know exactly what you're going to say
The hardest part of your first talk isn't the microphone, it's deciding what you want to be known for, because that's what your talk is really about. Personal Branding Basics runs on Monday 15 February in the same room, and it takes you right back to basics so you leave with your personal brand built, your audience defined, your tone of voice written down and your bio rewritten.
- Your signature skill
- Who you're talking to
- Brand vs business
- Tone of voice
- Your bio and content pillars
Take both days together for $897 inc GST and you'll save $97, and you'll walk into Tuesday knowing exactly what your talk is for, which makes everything we do on stage easier.
Both days are also available as 2 monthly payments of $460 inc GST. Choose the payment plan
Booking Day 2 on its own? You'll also see the option to add Day 1 for $400 when you check out.
Questions
I've never spoken in public. Is that a problem?
Not at all, because most people in the room won't have either, and nobody will be thrown in the deep end. You'll deliver two minutes to a supportive group, after a morning of preparing for exactly that.
Do I have to get up and speak?
I'd love you to, because that's where most of the learning happens, but it's your call on the day and nobody will push you.
Do I need to come to Personal Branding Basics first?
No, each day stands on its own. If you haven't worked out what you want to be known for yet, though, the two days are built to be taken together, and the bundle saves you $97.
Will this help me get paid speaking work?
It will get you ready for your first bookings and show you how to pitch for them. Most first gigs in this industry are brand education days, distributor events, association meetings, expo stages and podcasts, and we'll talk about how each one works, including when it's worth doing for free.
Can my business pay?
Of course, and you'll get a tax invoice in your business name, and the $497 includes GST, so if your business is registered for GST you can claim it back.
What if I can't make it after I've booked?
You can transfer your seat to someone else in your business at any time up to 48 hours before.
Will there be food I can eat?
The hotel caters for most dietary requirements, so tell us at checkout and they'll look after you.
